What is meditation?

Meditation is a tool for rediscovering the body’s own inner intelligence. Practiced for thousands of years, it’s not about forcing the mind to be quiet, it’s finding the silence that’s already there and making it a part of your life.

What is Primordial Sound Meditation?

Primordial Sound Meditation is a meditation technique originating in the ancient wisdom of India. Primordial Sounds—the basic, most essential sounds of nature—are used to disconnect us from the activity of life. These individually selected sounds, known as mantras, are based on the vibration the universe was making at the moment of your birth.

Once your Primordial Sound mantra has been determined, you will be taught how to use it on a daily basis to reawaken balance, tranquillity and compassion within. Your Chopra Center Certified Instructor will help you to integrate this practice into your daily routine.

How will Primordial Sound Meditation affect my health?

Nowadays, doctors are increasingly citing stress as a major contributing factor to most illnesses. Even though meditation should not be considered a cure by itself, research has shown it to be beneficial for a wide range of health problems. As stress is greatly eliminated through Primordial Sound Meditation, our minds and bodies begin to function with maximum effectiveness, creating health, vitality and happiness.

How do I learn Primordial Sound Meditation?

Primordial Sound Meditation is easily learned.

Your Chopra Center Certified Meditation Instructor will introduce you to the basic principles of meditation; it’s history and the importance of your mantra. You will receive personal instruction in your Primordial Sound mantra and learn how to use it. You will try meditation for the first time using your Primordial Sound mantra. You will then learn the practical aspects of meditation, share your experience, receive answers to any questions, and meditate with your instructor. In the final session, you will learn about the higher states of consciousness that can be achieved with regular Primordial Sound Meditation practice. Your instructor will share Deepak Chopra’s vision of these higher states.

Do I have to attend a group course?

We teach private individuals on a one to one basis only. Other forms of meditation such as breath awareness and mindfulness are taught as part of our group sessions. Your Primordial Sound mantra is personal to you and once you are taught you can practice for a lifetime without the use of apps, guided meditations or attending classes.

Meditation is often a topic of mystery. It may even be seen as a trend that dips in and out of fashion. I first dabbled in meditation in the eighties. It didn’t go well. At the time I desperately wanted to escape my teenage raging thoughts that had me bouncing off walls but I found the meditation on offer then too formal, restrictive. More rules, more Must Do when it was the Must Do I was running from. What I was after, I see now looking back, was a spiritual connection, a sense of meaning and a portal to access my inner calm.

Fast forward twenty years and I was ready to give it another go. This time with Primordial Sound Meditation (PSM). It resonated. I’ve since practised other forms of meditation, particularly mindfulness, which has become part of my daily life. However, I find mindfulness is complementary to a Primordial Sound practice. it doesn’t replace it and maybe I find mindfulness easy because of Primordial Sound. A chicken and egg scenario. We all know the research about the benefits of meditation, yet it still eludes many of us.

That not a criticism, just an observation and I’ve been that person too. I will say if you have a draw to meditation, feel a longing for connection or quietly want to have a regular spiritual practice in your life, for me, Primordial Sound brought me there and my hope is that it will do the same for you.
